National Certificate for Door Supervision & Conflict Management (Level 2)

Course Aim

The course will provide students with the necessary legal and operational knowledge, practical skills and understanding of their roles and responsibilities to become a competent Door Supervisor within the Security Industry 

Who is the course for?


The course is designed for candidates wishing to work within the security industry as a Door Supervisor. On successful completion of the course the candidate may then apply to the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for their Door Supervision license.

What is the duration of the course?


The duration of the course is 4 days in which the candidate will cover 4 Units.

Unit 1 – Working in the Private Security Industry:

Aim – This unit is intended for people who want to work in the private security industry and who require an SIA licence to practise. It covers those areas of content that are common across different sub-sectors: door supervision, security guarding, CCTV operations, vehicle immobilisation, and cash and valuables in transit.

  • • The purpose and main features of the private security industry
  • • The legislation that is relevant to people working in the private security industry
  • • Relevant aspects of health and safety in the workplace
  • • Application of fire safety principles
  • • Dealing with non-fire-related workplace emergencies
  • • The principles of effective communication and customer care in the private security industry


Unit 2 – Working as a Door Supervisor:

Aim – This unit is intended for people who want to work in the private security industry and who require an SIA licence to practice. It covers the knowledge and understanding for areas that are relevant to the role of a door supervisor.

  • • The role of a door supervisor within the private security industry
  • • Licensing law and social responsibility
  • • Other legislation applicable to the role of a door supervisor
  • • Searching and the importance of following procedures
  • • Powers of arrest and related procedures
  • • Incident recording
  • • Emergency procedures

 

Unit 3 – Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry

Aim - This unit is intended for people who want to work in the private security industry and who require an SIA licence to practice. It covers the knowledge and understanding and/or skills for areas that are relevant to front line roles.

  • • The principles of conflict management appropriate to their role
  • • How to recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations
  • • How to communicate effectively in emotive situations and de-escalate conflict
  • • How to develop and use problem solving strategies for resolving conflict
  • • Good practice to follow after conflict situations

 

Unit 4 – Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry:

Aim - This unit is intended for people who want to work in the private security industry and who require an SIA licence to practice. It covers the knowledge and understanding and/or skills for areas that are relevant to the role of a Door Supervisor and a Security Officer.

  • • The principles of physical intervention skills appropriate to their role
  • • The legal and professional implications of using physical intervention skills
  • • How to reduce the risk of harm
  • • Using non-aggressive physical skills
  • • Good practice to follow after physical intervention skills are used


Assessment


There are 2 Assessments for the Door Supervision Course:

Unit 1 – Working in the Private Security Industry– 25 multiple choice questions – Duration: 40 minutes

Unit 2 – Working as a Door Supervisor– 40 multiple choice questions – Duration: 60 minutes

Unit 3 - Conflict Manahement fot the Private Security Industry - 30 mulitple choice questions - Duration: 45 Mins

Unit 4 - Physical Intervention - All day Pratical assessment
