National Certificate for CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) Operators Course Aim.

The course will provide students with the necessary legal and operational knowledge, practical skills and understanding of their roles and responsibilities to become a competent CCTV Operator within the Security Industry.

Who is the course for?

The course is designed for candidates wishing to work within the security industry as a CCTV (PSS) Operator. On successful completion of the course the candidate may then apply to the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for their CCTV (PSS) Operator’s license.

What is the duration of the course?


The duration of the course is 4 days in which the candidate will cover 2 Units.

Unit 1 – Working in the Private Security Industry:

Aim – This unit is intended for people who want to work in the private security industry and who require an SIA licence to practise. It covers those areas of content that are common across different sub-sectors: door supervision, security guarding, CCTV operations, vehicle immobilisation, and cash and valuables in transit.

  • • The purpose and main features of the private security industry
  • • The legislation that is relevant to people working in the private security industry
  • • Relevant aspects of health and safety in the workplace
  • • Application of fire safety principles
  • • Dealing with non-fire-related workplace emergencies
  • • The principles of effective communication and customer care in the private security industry


Unit 2 – Working as a CCTV Operator:

  • Introduction to the CCTV Control Room
  • Radio Communications
  • Searching for People
  • Tracking People
  • Searching for Vehicles
  • Searching for Improvised Explosive Devices (IED)
  • Scenario Based Practical Exercises
  • Log keeping and Witness Statements

 

Unit 3 – Practical Operation of CCTV Equipment:

This unit is intended for people who want to work in the private security industry and who require an SIA licence to practice. It covers the skills for areas that are relevant to the role of a CCTV Operator in the practical operation of CCVT equipment

Learners will need to demonstrate that they can use CCTV equipment and that they can operate a CCTV system.

There are 3 Assessments for the CCTV (PSS) Operators Course:

Unit 1 – Working in the Private Security Industry– 25 multiple choice questions – Duration: 40 minutes

Unit 2 – Working as a CCTV Operator - 43 Questions Duration: 60Mins

Unit 3 Practical Assessment including scenario based learning throughout the day
